Sunflowers in February is about 15 year old Lilly who wakes up on the side of the road and realises she died in a car accident. But Lilly is not ready to go into the afterlife yet. She has some unfinished business. The big question is who was behind the hit and run that left her dead?

What drew me into this book is the warm cover and the title it immediate diately makes you think this will be a happy book but boy was I wrong!

I started this sceptical as it is a young adult contemporary and many of these books are similar in writing and I was unsure it would crave my appetite for a well written and meaning ful book.

This book deals with heavily with grief and loss as Lilly's twin brother, parents and boyfriend all experience the shock of losing her in different ways. I was pleasantly surprised when the Lilly kept cracking jokes throughout the book making the subject of bereavement light - in her perspective and I think because of that the book is done in a very good manner highlighting that bereavement (especially the loss of a young child) is no easy thing to go through but what I got from this was that it is something you will go through. Everyone eventually will lose someone in their life and after reading this book and almost feeling the emotions of every character which shows how well written and in depth portrayal and effort was given I concluded man I never want to go through such a loss.

Overall I highly recommend this book because it will actually teach you something and make you feel.
