This novel’s dazzling setting, meticulous plotting, and intriguing characters make for a pleasant voyage with danger at every port that I can't wait to find more about. Surviving Execution is an enthralling heartbreaking factual story. The journey we experience is that of Richard Glossip who has been sentenced to death for ostensibly arranging the murder of his boss. This book works on many levels – it deals with realities of enforcing a death sentence and whether the death sentence should be abolished which was highly fascinating to read about. Imagine being condemned to death for murder, when even the prosecutors admit that you didn't actually kill anyone. This is what happened to our main character and it is shocking to read about. Despite the turn of events, the state of Oklahoma is still determined on executing him, raising international controversy. It is also the story of Ian Woods, a Sky News reporter, who came across the case one quiet afternoon, and who has tirelessly campaigned ever since to bring the injustices Glossip has faced to the world's attention.
Would certainly recommend this.
