This extract was gripping from the first couple of sentences. It sheds light on the prison system and capital punishment by providing a detailed history of America’s use of the death penalty. Many of the accounts included gruesome stories of how inmates were inhumanely executed and they bring up questions surrounding the morality of the death penalty - is it right? Is there really a humane way to kill someone against their will.

The account of the murder and events surrounding the event was very intriguing and led me wanting to read more. As someone who loves to read true crime books, I look forward to finishing this book as it seems to tell a unique story of an innocent man on death row. The author recounts the story well, in a way that reminds me of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.

Overall very promising start and I strongly recommend to anyone who loves true crime !
