I am completely intrigued already, and want to know what happened both now and in the narrator's childhood. I like the details that set the scene and relationships, like the description of watching her dad go off for a smoke, the fact she dropped her book to watch as soon as hearing his footsteps was interesting, I want to work out what has happened and what she will remember / reveal. The characters already feel very real, and the scenes described. The whole idea seems a clever one, someone having suspicions of their own family, and them trying to work out what is true, even while as the reader you have to try to work out whether the narrator is lying to themselves or you in their description about things or misremembering.

The details that date the flashbacks, like the pop tarts and reading by a glow worm also work well to set the scene. I like the smooth flow of the writing and the way it feels easy to read but also has details you might need to go back and check.
