I was given this book as a Christmas present and that actually proved to be a great time to read it as it is set around the Christmas period. The front cover looked great and I was happy to give it a go.

The novel flits between the present day (when Cat is investigating a murder) and her childhood memories of a holiday in Ireland (which are somewhat influencing her investigation). As a character she is kind of frustrating just because she has held on to some very serious suspicions about her father for so long it seems unbelievable. However, I liked that Caz Frear had her get to the bottom of things herself, rather than following the rules she should as a detective. This made her much more likeable and I enjoyed the dysfunctional family dynamic.

The plot is full of twists which I really enjoyed (particularly the last one), and everything comes together very nicely at the end. It's not a spectacular read, but it's pretty good.
