I have to say, I'm not usually the biggest fan of the thriller/mystery genres but this book had me absolutely gripped from start to finish. One of the aspects of the book that really stood out for me is the large quantity of strong female characters. I find quite often in these kinds of books that there is a 'token' female character but Frear has made a point to have several powerful women in the novel, which I really appreciated. Normally in thrillers, the female characters are weak and docile - but that is not the case here thankfully!
The storyline itself is far from predictable and we, as the readers, end up experiencing so much more darkness than I would have expected from the first few pages. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you like thrillers, you'll find yourself asking the question 'What did happen to Maryanne Doyle?'
