I very much liked the central character, DC Cat Kinsella, who, along with her colleagues, delivers much humour amidst the thrills and spills. The dialogue is snappy and sounds genuine, which adds to the realism. It is very well plotted, a great pace running through from the intriguing first page to the excellent conclusion. Kinsella is someone I warmed to immediately and was rooting for her throughout. Her determination to get the job done, ignore distractions and overcome no shortage of hostility both within the police station and outside, from her father and siblings were traits to admire.

The scene setting and building of tension are also expertly managed. Astute observations on place and person create clear pictures in the mind of the reader. The adjectives are sparing, nothing is overdone. A really good read.
