Firstly the title hooked me, anything with the word 'lie' in the title makes me want to read on to find out what the lie is. After reading the first couple of chapters there's so much left unanswered that I want to find out. What happened to Maryanne Doyle? Why did the Dad tell a lie about Maryanne? What was the lie? What previous life did the dad lead with his old crew? What happened to Cat when she was 8? Lots of questions need answering and the only way to do so is to read the rest of the book! The writing style is easy to read and flows nicely. I like how snippets of the past is given which gives us a glimpse in to what happened to round the story out but not to much that you can guess where the story is going straight away.
