What a hugely imaginative way to teach children (and adults!) about the culinary history of such a diverse range of other cultures and how these been influenced over the centuries by the arrival of traders, migrants and refugees. Including simple recipes is likely to inspire children to experiment with possibly unfamiliar ingredients and encourage them to be more adventurous with what they eat. In fact, the descriptions of some of the dishes not only 'tickled my taste buds' but made me want to get into the kitchen and start cooking!
What I also liked were the 'potted' historical facts about each country and the global maps identifying where each one is ... a lovely way to learn about geography! There is so much information included throughout the book that I'm sure that, recipes aside, this is a book which lends itself to being 'dipped into' over and over again ... and the colourful, detailed illustrations are sure to engage the interest of children.
