Informative but not practical

The colourful artwork in this book is beautiful to look at and the large pages are packed with fun facts, ingredients and recipes from each country featured. The history and origin of produce and dishes were well researched and written in an accessible way for readers. However the pages felt far too busy with everything being crammed into a small space so it was overwhelming knowing where to start.

The book covers a number of countries however I was disappointed to see the UK omitted completely. When sharing this book with my children they were keen to see the similarities and differences between dishes and ingredients they encounter every day and those from other countries around the world. The exclusion of a reference point like that runs the risk of being distancing for young readers.

It is a brilliant concept however the execution just doesn't feel practical. The physical book is huge so can't be used easily in the kitchen and the recipes themselves are not presented in an easy to follow way at all.

I would say this book is most suitable for older children and perhaps as a learning tool in schools and nurseries to present foods from around the world. However I can't see it being used that much for cooking or it being the type of book you would sit down and read over and over again with your children.

Thank you to Readers First for the copy of this book.
