A wonderful debut novel
Whitaker's debut novel exudes suspense, heartache and humour. The absolute star of the book is wise-cracking Manny, a wannabe gangster and on-the-side Rocky enthusiast. However, central to the plot is the disappearance of a young boy and the effect it has on the town of Tall Oaks - both to those who know the truth, and those who are unaware, yet somehow implicated.
I received this book from Readers First, simply by signing up. With books of this quality I'm likely to return often. Tall Oaks is gripping, Whitaker is certainly an author I intend to follow. There have been comparisons made with the recently successful 'Harry Quebert' and even 'It'; true there are some elements but it certainly doesn't belong in either of these novel's genres. Do read this great piece of fiction.
