There are so many threads in this story which would usually make me want to immerse myself in the intrigues and dark world of Elizabethan London and, from reading the opening chapters, the characters appear to be interesting. However, I didn't feel engaged enough to want to read further - I have possibly had a surfeit of that era in my recent reading!
