This is a romantic novel set in America and involving two high performing characters, who have been very successful in their lives apart from on the dating and relationship front. In an attempt to resolve this they join “The Arc”, an elite matchmaking service which uses some unusual practices to find what they promise to be the perfect match. In the world that the two main characters inhabit, they are used to outsourcing all their personal issues to “experts” as is highlighted by the use of the woman’s health retreat that Ursula and her best friend Issa use.
It wouldn’t normally be my choice of read but it was pleasantly well written and addressed some emotional and relationship issues sensitively and maturely, which made it a star above the usual “boy meets girls falls in and out of love then back in love” type of predictable plotline.
It isn’t a novel which will stretch you but it is a pleasant read, with enough of a story to keep you interested. The insight into the demons that people battle with when navigating a relationship and their own personal needs is interestingly observed through the character’s inner monologues.
