These dark opening chapters match up nicely with the creepy aesthetic of the book’s cover. The story seems gripping from the outset and I’m left with lots of questions after reading the sample. Of course, I want to know who the killer is, why he’s doing what he’s doing, and how/if the police will catch him, but I also want to know the backstory to the arrest of DI Rees as well as how Grace Archer is going to get on in her new role. I like the writing style, particularly the way tension is built during the scene in the coffee shop and the sense of foreboding that develops from the apparent killer making a list of further people/victims to feature in his nefarious art installations.
