I was fascinated with the blurb from this book it conjured up Silence of the Lambs feels for me, with @nonymous watching potential victims in the Lumberyard Cafe which becomes one the focal points of this gripping story.

Whilst he is there, DI Grace Archer calls in for a coffee and he spots her, she is heading back to her first day after at work at Charing Cross Police Station after she arrested the previous DI. She hardly gets time to settle when she is confronted with a hideous discovery.

From the outset this is a creepy read, the way the killer watches his victims and grooms them online is terrifying. His crimes are particularly gruesome in the way that he kills and then turns them into display pieces. When people initially see them they are astounded as they look so lifelike however what they do not realise is that they are in fact murder victims.

This is a really fast paced novel I was really surprised when the first murders took place as I was expecting a build up and I liked how it surprised me. The killer has also taken the additional step of filming his ‘work’ as he refers to it and these videos are being shown in London art galleries. When they start to investigate it appears these three murders are not a single occurrence and that there will be more ! This increases the pace of the novel even more so and you will be hooked to find out if Grace can stop anymore killings.

This is a great police procedural book and it is very dark and gruesome, which I do not mind at all. I liked the character of Grace she is tough, fair and she has to deal with a lot of work politics due to her investigation of the previous DI. Her partner DI Harry Quinn is a brusque Irishman and she wonders if she can trust him as she knows she needs to watch her back .

I thought the way the author uses the internet with how the killer finds his victims and how he has lots of online followers was clever and so believable, they refer to him as a wannabee Banksy but this is really not the case at all. He is a very very disturbed individual. The finale is really tense and you will need to keep on reading !

This is a great debut thriller from this author and I really enjoyed the partnership of Archer and Quinn and I hope that there will be more from this partnership in the future.

A great read.
