I read this book in just two instalments, reading long into the small hours as I just didn't want to stop.
The writing is excellent and the story roars along at a terrific pace, interweaving several strands and a full cast of characters. By and large, the story is very well constructed with a lot of twists and turns which all come together very nicely, with not even much in the way of unfeasible coincidences that would kind of jar in a less well written book and there's a very good teaser to end with.
It starts with a terrific hook and just doesn't let go all the way through.
There is one slightly off the peg character in a DI with a bit of a grudge against the main protagonist but this is not overdone and, hopefully, will not become a caricature in future instalments. The rest of the cast are so well drawn that you really care what's happening to them, both in their jobs and back stories.
