The Art of Death by David Fennell is an immensely gripping novel. The intense mystery paired with the diabolical nature of the murders and overall thriller tropes were eloquently written. Fennell’s writing techniques made this book all the more enjoyable, the pace was perfect; not too fast but not too slow, and the level of detail and research that was included really paid off.; the highly developed plot and its execution cannot be faulted. The macabre and grotesque exhibitions, presented in such a crude and shocking, done so by such a deranged murderer, the twists and turns along with the detective’s own issues made it a truly captivating and immersive read. The multiple points of views were truly enjoyable, enabling you to understand each character on a more personal level, and I found myself connecting to each character individually. The story also upholds a key social message regarding social media and the power the information you upload, or release can have.
Overall, the book was an enjoyable read, filled with gore, cryptic mysteries, and submerged with action.
