Thriller with an artistic twist
The Art of Death is an intense and brutal thriller by David Fennell that will make you view art and social media in a different light. We're introduced to Detective Inspector Grace Archer, newly promoted but starting her new job under a bit of a cloud due to a set of circumstances that are explained but not really detailed. She is thrown into the action straight away with a case featuring a serial killer who puts his victims on display in glass cases as art installations in various locations around London. He also uses social media to stream his activities live to a horrified but fascinated public, making it harder for the police to get one step ahead of him. There's a subplot about events in Grace's past that gives her a bit of an edge and the story is gripping and quite harrowing in parts. I enjoyed it a lot and hope this is the start of a series.
