I really really enjoyed this book. A great first book from David Fennell. Set in London DI Grace Archer is haunted by both the triple homocide on the first day in her new job and of her terrible and tragic past. Our leading lady carries a host of trauma with her throughout the story that only stands to make her a stronger and more likeable protagonist.

While the story itself was not entirely unique, (giving nods to killers like Jigsaw and Buffalo Bill) it gives a modern slant on urban legends. It foretells of the danger and close to the bone reality of putting your life for all to see on social media.

Although the ending was predictable, to quote Annie Wilkes “it was fair” and the reader certainly wasn’t cheated. Fennell’s writing was intense and well constructed. The can’t wait to see more from Fennell and hopefully not the last we hear from Grace Archer either
