As a person who grew up in London, the essence is there. The time spent on describing the setting is worth every letter, purely because of the introduction it gives you to the intriguing story. You get such a true essence and feeling of London in this description and text. It's just like you were there in person. Don't get me started on the character build up, you sense the mystery from the first word. There's a sense of eeriness and tension. It really sets you up for mystery.

This beginning is very promising and more then interesting, a joy to read, even just the beginning. It really sets the tone for this novel and frankly Archer is framed as quite a likeable character despite what I was expecting, he seems to have more sympathy then you would think. Mystery, death and all from the most unexpected source, this is a ravishing, exciting and a very mysterious beginning to what i can only imagine is an amazing novel.
