Ms Patterson's world falls apart when she is made redundant. Sadly this is something that I know all too well and although my job was neither well paid nor highflying but it was mine and I did it well. This book appears to be an attempt to rationalise away the pain that comes with being dumped - for that's what redundancy is, it's being dumped.

As a journalist the author has a very distinct voice that is, in places droll and witty, in others didactic. Although I started off with very strong "I love this" vibes, I ended on a much less positive note. Something about "the voice" is beginning to grate; maybe it is the contrived honesty or the shameless pity party that brings everyone's story back to hers.

Not sure if this is one for me or not.
