When you lose your job it's easy to assume that all those 'other' people are just fine and you're the only person sinking into a morass of destructive thinking, of having made poor life choices, that life as you know it is over... So, like the author herself, I'll admit to feeling just a smidgen of glee (for just a nano second) when a high flying journalist tells us how she was made redundant, swiftly followed by waves of sympathetic recognition for the process she portrays so vividly and with such painful honesty. It also actually manages to be funny about a very unfunny stage of life many of us have experienced. I can't wait to read how it pans out, does she find a new job, get entrepreneurial, gracefully (or disgracefully) retire... As, according to recent reports, fifty percent of us will be made redundant over the next few years this is a timely book indeed.
