'The Bad Daughter' is a thriller about a murder that happens in a small town and focuses on the family, specifically the perspective of Robin, the daughter. Robin is a therapist, but as revealed in the opening chapters, struggles to understand the dynamics of her own family, relationships and suffers with severe anxiety. This resulted in really interesting style of writing that included much of her internal dialogue and the back-and-forth she had within herself, which really provided an insight into her character and the atmosphere of the entire novel.

There was a superbly fascinating family dynamic throughout this novel, which explored savage betrayal, pain and regret and the development of every character was enjoyable to read. However, I do wish there had been a greater gradual development regarding the character with autism.

Furthermore, I feel the portrayal of the twelve year old girl, Cassidy, although vital to the novel, was often out of sync, and possibly too mature, which at times was used to encourage the plot, although at others it felt alien and interrupted the flow of the book.

Overall, this was a good thriller with an original plot that I flew through desperate to learn how it ended. I would recommend.
