The cover of this book definitely had me interested, the title alone would make me pick it up, but the bloody window just adds to this, we are in for some gruesome reading. I love a book that hooks you from the first sentence as this one does, and then keeps on going rather than just jumping to a different point in time and leaving you waiting to find out how the beginning plays out. Opening with a prisoner escape that's fast paced makes me eager for the rest of the book if it keeps up that quality. I'm already invested in the extremely interesting main character, a female spy in the late 18th century is a rare enough thing but even with this brief glimpse we get of her she seems to be able to take care of herself, and then some. The writing style has a good flow to it, well researched time period, but not weighed down with the details, plenty of interesting side characters mentioned in these opening pages all who seem to have a history with our main character, will any of them play a further part in the story?
