The cover of 'The Bastille Spy' promises a brutal and bloodthirsty historical novel. The main character Attica seems to bridge two worlds, those of the so-called respectable social elite and the sordid underworld spy network never mentioned in polite society. She doesn't fit in to the former using dark humour to keep herself apart. She seems far more comfortable in the barely legal world of the disgraced but useful spies. Her character is written so well that I am desperate to find out if she will be able to remain in the latter where she obviously excels, or will she be forced by her family to make a political marriage alliance? Whichever future is in store for her will she survive it? Oh, and whats the mystery behind the diamonds... ???
