Couldn't finish it

This book is poorly written at best. Littered with cliches from the outset, I felt no desire to finish it. It surrounds the story of a female heroine who doesn't need a husband, yet longs to be with her married commanding officer. She defies orders from her superiors to rescue innocent people even though it's not the objective of the mission, which has removed her from favour. Her friends are a gang of misfits who are better than they seem. It comes across as very tired subject matter.

The writer's descriptions are basic and tire quickly - I have no interest in clothing descriptions that use one adjective per item of clothing over and over again - it adds nothing to the narrative.

The book is interspersed with new chapters every 4 or 5 pages which interrupt the flow of the narrative in an effort to hide the lack of content the writing really holds.

Overall I was thoroughly disappointed with this book. It is probably fine for someone desiring a light read from an action genre but lacks the writing skill or commitment needed to create good historical fiction.
