Historical fiction is always an intriguing genre as it encompasses needing to fall in to the correct use of language, scenery and characters to make it work. This book has manages to do it in a way that balances out the wonders of history and a story that engages you.
The characters are appealing and you mentally want to cheer on the lead character from the beginning due to the several disadvantages she is faced with from the beginning, especially being a woman in the time period we're looking at.
I really enjoyed this book as a relaxing read, engaging enough to keep my brain ticking over, whilst falling into the easy read category at the same time, which is a balance many authors strive for. Highly recommended.
