I don't normally read historical fiction and personally have never been a fan of these types of books before. However, The Bastille Spy seems to be an exception as it's very fast paced with constant action and it was great for most of the action to be undertaken by a strong female lead character.

Not knowing much about the history facts of that era didn't deter me from reading and understanding the book and it gave enough information to ensure you could understand the time period and still enjoy the book.

I also really liked how the characters weren't one dimensional, they all had back stories and flaws that developed as the plot moved on and you learnt more about them and how they were shaped into the characters they were throughout the book.
