I am not generally a fan of historical novels and therefore was not sure what to expect from this unusual plot, but from the outset it proved to be a real "pager-turner", with dynamic twists and turns. What made this successful was the believable lead characters who are the antithesis of stereo-types.

If you can imagine James Bond portrayed as a mixed race woman tasked with infiltrating Revolutionary France and you will have an inkling of the plot!

The wealth of evocative descriptions of the extremes of wealth and poverty bring to life fast moving events of the time, capturing an urgency and ingeniously interwoven with genuine historical, pivotal characters such as Dante and Robespierre.

I will definitely look out for future novels by this author.
