The first lines are ones that catch a readers attention and draw them in straight away. By describing our main character so mysteriously and well, I was instantly connected to them, excited to learn more about them as I went on. Amazing use of characterisation overall in this sneak peek.

This line! This line made me gasp a little, an introduction to a plot twist that will hopefully come later on in the novel!
We were definitely left on a cliffhanger with this, I was left unsure if the book was supposed to be a magical experience, or more thrilling. I feel like connotations of lights sounds magical but the mentions of ghosts, and death take it a different turn. I am so interested in what happens next, I am excited just writing this! I will definitely be thinking of this for days.
