Once I got into the style of this book, I loved it so far. The narration is close and open, in the style of a diary which the narrator may be writing alongside her therapy. At first I wasn’t sure, but after a few pages it grew on me. There is a strange, mystical element in the narration, a sense of magic in the way the events of the past are told, and also foreboding in some of the imagery. All this worked perfectly together with the first elements of the storyline.

The setting and life situation of the characters fit the overall feel of the book. There seems to be a lot of sadness in the narrator, and regret for how things turned out, which comes through in the way she describes her home town and the people who lived there. Having been drawn in by this direct narration, with its darkness and sadness, and the tragic premonition which turned out to be true, I would like to see this story through to the end. Already from the opening pages, the premise and the narration has gripped me and I am emotionally invested.

The cover is simple and striking; it seems to go very well with the setting and characters involved. It suggests to me that the book will be overall more hopeful than it seems at the beginning.
