In The Beauty of Impossible Things Natasha regularly sees a therapist as she tries to come to terms with events that took place thirty years ago when she was just fifteen. Natasha's mother and father were both painters however her father had left some years previously and lived, and painted, on a small island of the coast of France. When she was very young a fortune teller told her she had the ability to see things and Natasha did foresee a fishing boat leaving the harbour never to return. All hands were lost including the father of her friends, Marcus and Lewis. Natasha and her mother aren't wealthy and take in lodgers during the summer to supplement their income. That particular summer, the summer when Natasha is fifteen, Natasha sees little flashing lights dancing and loving up to the sky, a Mr Bowen arrives to stay with them and a teenager goes missing. Rachel Donohue spins a complex tale and draws her readers in to her stories. She previously won the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year and The Beauty of Impossible Things is another sure winner for her readers.
