'Summer gothic' - this drew me in as it seems a beautiful oxymoron of sorts! The extract mentions a lot of decaying British seaside references and this sealed my first impression of the setting as intriguing - I want to know more! Some strong characters and interesting family dynamics are also introduced early on.
