If my title didn’t give a good explanation of what I thought, let me detail:
I loved this first impression a lot!! First and foremost you have the gorgeous cover, brilliantly captivating and artistically great. Secondly you have the writing itself, without giving too much away, its captivating and compelling in all the right ways, the mystery is set early on and I love the macabre feel of the book with imagery of death dotted throughout. I agree with other reviewers in that first person writing is usually a major turn off however this is done well. Suffice to say, I am very excited to read this book!
One of the last lines hooked me the most. “It always smells of death on the ridge.”
