I very much enjoyed The Beauty of Impossible Things. Truthfully I was drawn to this book by the beautiful cover but also because of the author as I have read her previous book - The Temple House Vanishing - and found it to be an excellent read. The setting of The Beauty of Impossible Things was really well described and I got a very clear picture of the crumbling house on the cliff as well as the busy tourist filled seaside town. The supernatural element was nicely done - not too over the top but enough that you could buy into the idea from the creepy premonition about the sailors not returning to the fear invoked by the lights after their appearance. The requirement for guests to stay at the house and the arrival of Mr Brown added a nice aspect to the storyline which I felt balanced nicely. This book is not long but is very atmospheric and absorbing.
