Firstly I would comment on the cover, I know you should never judge by this but in this case I feel the cover sets the tone of the book. The colours and simplicity lead nicely into the beauty of the writing and the slow burning nature of the story as it unfolds. It is also a nice coffee book cover as it looks lovely and has a great title.

The book itself is a great example of how the correct writing style can set the tone of the book and keep you hooked in the beginning. Rachel Donohue is not someone I have read before so I didn’t have a frame of reference but I was so impressed with the style and how she sets the tone and a great dark atmosphere throughout. The first person narrative is also a great choice for this particaulr style of story.

The story itself was slow and descriptive and sets place in the future but it told by the main character as she is in therapy as to how it happened and remembered back when she was 15. The pace is slow but this is certainly not a bad thing as the book is one that doesn’t need to be rushed as that was distract from the background.
