This was a book that was totally different for me, it was a book I wouldn’t normally pick up but when I read the synopsis I couldn’t wait to read it and was so happy when I received my copy. I adored the writing style, it was written beautifully and was creepy, atmospheric but stunning all at the same time. I enjoyed the jump in time frames trying to understand exactly what happened the summer thirty years before! I love the transition between the periods, I love how the thoughts of a younger Natasha mash with the thoughts of her when she’s older and the intrigue around why she sought help from a therapist after forgetting and why she wants to remember.
I loved the relationships with both Natasha’s mother and her friends, how fractured they are or become and how Natasha navigates them and adding it the supernatural and folklore elements make it a magical story! It is a really beautiful piece of work and I will definitely read more of Donohue’s work.
