This book follows a summer experienced by Natasha aged 15. This is very much a coming of age story and is so beautifully written. The writing flows wonderfully and is captivating, mysterious and emotive. The story never quite allows you to relax as there is an underlying tension throughout as you follow Natasha's journey and wonder how things will unfold. The author leaves the reader with a chilled, spooked feeling which never really goes.
I did feel a little frustrated in places as I found some parts of the book seemed to repeat itself such as when discussing her mother's beauty and coldness. I was left a little underwhelmed as I felt the story didn't really go very far and the story moved at a slightly too leisurely pace. This book is to be enjoyed for it's beautiful writing rather than the plot itself I feel.
