The Beauty of Impossible Things tells the story of Natasha, who lives with her bohemian mother in a crumbling house by the sea; close by is a small town, with inhabitants who live there all year round, and an influx of tourists in the summer eager to befriend the locals. Yet Natasha and her mother have always been outsiders, with few close friends. Natasha has the gift of foresight, and this coming-of-age novel focuses on how Natasha's gift affects her own sense of self, and her relationships with those around her.

This book is beautifully written; the prose is poetic, and builds the darkly sinister tension perfectly. Perhaps typical of a modern Gothic novel, the setting is as important as the characters in the series of events, the surroundings influencing the actions and very natures of the characters.

The suspense continues to build until the events unfold, and the ending proves itself haunting in its futility.
