I hadn't realised, until I read the author blurb, that I'd read Rachel Donohue's debut, "The Temple House Vanishing". I remember thinking that it was a book that was very much style over substance (for me) and I've come away with the same feeling about "The Beauty of Impossible Things".
It's not that it's a bad book, far from it, but rather that the author's style is probably akin to Marmite - you'll either love it or hate it. Hate is too strong a word but I find the style overly lyrical and wordy. There's a half decent story in there somewhere but it gets drowned in too much angst and navel gazing - which is somewhat ironic given the fate of a couple of the characters.
If you love fast paced thrillers this won't be for you but if you enjoy a meandering and poetic style of story that is more about the characters psyche than the events themselves, this will be right up your alley.
