I was gripped by the first line 'I turned fifteen that summer which I never believed to be significant, though afterwards people claimed quite vehemently that it was.' Why was it significant for Natasha, who lives an isolated life with her unconventional mother by the sea?

This cross genre novel will really draw you in. It has a mystery, crime, romance, coming of age and supernatural element, which makes an intriguing read. If you are not a supernatural fan, please give this a try because it is not an exaggerated account of magic. Natasha, the lead, can predict the future, but not in the obvious crystal ball way. The reader follows her perspective throughout in first person, so there is great insight into her predictions. It enters like a bad thought or a bad feeling of something off; like something bad is going to happen. It is believable.

When the handsome new Lodger, Mr Bowen, enters her life even stranger things start to occur. Natasha and her mother are such unconventional characters, I instantly liked them. They are distant from the small holiday town, in which they live, who do not accept different people and it is demonstrated in the town's attitude to one of Natasha's friends, Lewis.

I read this book quickly. The easy writing style flows nicely, taking the reader through theories on what the mysterious lights are, Natasha's gift, her friendships, and her relationship with her mother.
