the writing style and tone of the book is one of my favourites to read. On first impression a sense of tension and hidden darkness is expressed which draws me in from the start as to why these feelings are shown. I would love to see how the book plans out and see how it ends.
The first lines of the chapter create the impression that the girl has a hidden talent and by the fact she references her mother using 'was' creates the idea that her mother has passed or that she doesn't associate with her. Also the use of referring to scenarios like ' lost summer of 30 years ago ' makes me intrigued and want to read on as to what happened to make her see a therapist about the situation. When the girl says that almost everyone that summer died or lost makes me wonder why she didn't die and why everyone else did. Further on the description of the beach makes it seem as though the beach was bad from the start due to the wave of heats, therefore this book is very intriguing
