I read Rachel Donohue's first novel 'The Temple House Vanishing' back in early 2020 and I enjoyed it; it was an impressive debut, so I was eager to read Donohue's second novel, 'The Beauty of Impossible Things'.
Firstly, I love the cover design for this coming-of-age narrative set by the sea; it's really eye-catching and the depth of mystery behind the blurb pulls you into reading the book.
Donohue's writing has both control and style; she adopts an almost lyrical format to her protagonist's transition into adulthood. I enjoyed taking my time and enjoying the progression of the story, as this is not an action read, it meanders and takes its time to build, which I do enjoy.
A story of the past from the future perspective, of relationships, small communities and remembrance.
If you like reflective fiction with a depth of sadness and exploring self-reflective angst from youth to adulthood, then do check out this book.
