This wonderful, beautiful, painful beginning of a book is only going to become more wonderful, beautiful and painful. I volunteer crocheting items for people in refugee camps from Syria, and I sobbed at these words. I wanted to reach through the pages and hold each person - not character, person - and make their world better. I wanted to heal their wounds and wipe away their tears.
The book starts in a truly unique way, and is written in a style that captures you. You can hear the hum of the bees, the cooking sounds, then, later, the distant bombing.
The language use is so natural, it flows, ready for the next page. And the desperate need for everyone to see that refugees are humans having suffered horrendous damage is important. Desperately important.
I can truly see this book being the book that captures the hearts of everyone in 2019.
