When I first looked at this book, I didn't think it would really be my cup of tea, but I was very wrong.

My knowledge of what happens in foreign, war torn countries is limited to the odd snippets
I've seen on the news, where it is made out that the people escaping the terror are wrongly trying to make their way into Britain. It is only since reading this book that my eyes have truly been opened to the ordeals people are put through.

The nice, normal, hardworking family in the story immediately gained my respect. Successful artists/beekeepers they lived happily until the war took from them more than just their home and their beloved son.

The treacherous journey they made to get away from the danger, as well as their huge reluctance to leave their livelihood made me feel so so sorry for them. It was a side of the wars that I hadn't seen before.

I read this book in a day, because I was so desperate to see whether their attempts to join their beekeeping family in the UK were successful. Loved every minute!
