This book nearly broke me!

It is an emotional and very well-written account of a man's journey across Europe as a refugee; a fictional account of a massive humanitarian crisis that is often reported dispassionately by the media.

The main character is portrayed as an affable family man who finds himself caught up in the Syrian unrest and follows his journey with his wife who has lost her vision and a young boy Mohammed, who is indistinct and not always irrefutably real or imaginary.

Every scene of this book is fantastically well described but the part that really sticks with me is in the park where refugees all find themselves camping, and the portrayal of the people that prey on the vulnerable. These people are described in such a sinister way, with young boys going missing and being abused, that their description has just stuck with me. At the time they made me feel quite sick!

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone.
