Wow! What an absolute delight! Yes do judge this book by it's fabulous cover, do be completely transported into Nuri's story, but do stock up on Kleenex first!!
This is beautifully written. From the very first words you are there. Nuri, Mustafa and Afra are so real. Even the minor characters like the Moroccan ‘geezer' are completely three dimensional and leap off the page.
An absolute must read which deals with such a poignant, heart breaking and shockingly recent part of our history. The relationship between Nuri and Afra is beautifully crafted to show that true love will triumph even in the most difficult of circumstances- yet without being sentimental. I loved the analogy with the poor bee with no wings and the damaged characters. This is a novel of hope, of love and of recovery. It’s perfect as it is....but I’d love a sequel telling us what happens next!
