I listened to this on audiobook - it’s actually the first audible book I have ever listened to, but because I have recently got a dog I thought it would be a nice way to hear a story while I have my hands full.
It didn’t disappoint- the characters were brought to life with vivid descriptions, as were the places they travelled.
This book covers the story of a beekeeper and his wife, who have lost their son in to a bomb in Syria and follows them as they try to escape their home country with their own lives and travel across Europe to get to England.
It gives such empathy to the movements of refugees and what the my go through, not only to want to leave their home country, but also the horrors they encounter along the way. The writer details the haunting baggage they carry with them, which remains even when they reach safety.
It left me wanting to do more to help their plight.
