This is the story of Nuri, a beekeeper and Afra his wife an artist and their struggle to flee war torn Aleppo in Syria and make the perilous journey to Britain and an uncertain future there.
Although this book is fiction, it is based on true stories and experiences of refugees fleeing mostly Syria and Afghanistan.
The plight of these people was witnessed firsthand by Christy Lefteri the author, who in the summer of 2016 and 2017 worked as a volunteer in a Unicef funded refugee camp in Athens. I recently watched Christy being interviewed on Sky news as she told of her experiences at the refugee camp and how the seeds of " The Beekeeper of Aleppo " were sown, by listening to the horrific tales of the people she was helping.
This novel is a compelling read which I would highly recommend.
