This story will stay with me for the rest of my life and from the first pages it hit me hard. The beekeeper of Aleppo is a fast paced, emotional and tragic journey of a book. It follows the journey of Syrian beekeeper Nuri and his blind wife Afra after their life is torn apart by Syrian conflict. The story seamlessly jumps between the present day and Nuri's flashbacks of their journey from Syria to England. The plot is very thought provoking and relevant, making me think about the challenges faced by so many effected by this conflict. I honestly could not put this book down and read it in one sitting, the balance of heartbreak and hope meant this book is incredibly touching and puts you through a range of emotions.
Although a work of fiction, the events that happened are far from fiction, making this book even more harrowing and I believe everyone should read this book.
